Disney The Decision Free Essays
Eisner and some of the executives were very interested in expanding and building a new theme park. When they were attending a meeting in Virginia, they were impressed by the post war restoration. The idea of building a theme park with American history as the main idea came to Eisner at that time. We will write a custom essay sample on Disney: The Decision or any similar topic only for you Order Now The idea became a plan and soon the executives of Disney found suitable land that was affordable with all amenities. An international airport was nearby; the land would not create any environmental issues. It was also near an interstate highway. The politicians of the state were also for development and growth. The land identified with all these benefits was in Prince William County in the heart of Virginiaââ¬â¢s Piedmont region. What Eisner may not have known at that time was that the Piedmont region was home to some of Americas most influential and wealthy people. The region had also fought off several developmental projects from that area. Once the announcement was made by Disney about the building of the theme park, opposition started rising from most of the wealthiest people from the region. There was also opposition from various organizations like The Piedmont Environmental Council. Why Disney America was never built The various organizations started mounting negative publicity against Disney. Disney being an image conscious company was put in a dilemma. Eisner was of the view that the project had to go on. He was also supported by the Virginiaââ¬â¢s Governor George Allen. In spite of various campaigns by Eisner, the opposition kept mounting against the project with historians and journalists joining the bandwagon against Disney. All the opposition finally caught up with Eisner who decided that continuing with the project was not worth it. The decision was made because Eisner knew that if the park was opened in spite of the opposition, after it was opened, it could lead to further trouble, especially from the historians. The need for focusing on the other projects and the risk to Disneyââ¬â¢s reputation were the most important aspects that made Eisner decide not to go ahead with the project. Eisner decided that deciding not to go ahead with the project was the best option under the circumstances. If he had continued with the project, there could have been opposition from Historians who were already campaigning against the project. If Disney had to concentrate all its efforts on the Disney America project then there was a risk of losing focus on its other business concerns. There was also the risk of losing the reputation of Disney that had been built for years. These were the main reasons for ending the project, but the other reasons were because of the problems in the management of Disney where one key executive had died and another had resigned. There were also rumors that there was a leadership crisis in Disney. All these reasons made Eisner deciding against continuing the project. The best choice under the circumstances This was also the best choice that Eisner had. The project seems to have become a personal ambition for him. He had made remarks in a press release that would not have benefited the company. He also took it upon himself to go ahead with the project. This led to irrational thinking. Monitoring various projects would have actually become difficult if the company had so many hurdles in just a single project. The situation for the Disney company at that time was not good with the EuroDisney making a huge loss and the number of visitors dropping. Fighting a legal battle with the opponents of the park in Piedmont would have drained the resources of the company financially. There is evidence to suggest that Historians would have found fault with the many historical scenes depicted in the theme park, if it had been built. The Piedmont community and the environmentalists were also preparing for a legal battle with monetary contributions pouring in. This would have led to a long legal battle if the park had been built. So it was best in the interests of the company that Eisner decided not to go ahead with the building of the Disney America theme park. How to cite Disney: The Decision, Papers

Evaluation Of Cultural Tourism Attraction â⬠Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Evaluation Of Cultural Tourism Attraction? Answer: Introducation Cultural and heritage tourism includes all the places and landmarks which authentically associate with the history, artifacts, culture, people and stories from the past. It provides a unique experience to the visitors who can enjoy and learn about the activities related to it (Briassoulis and Van der Straaten, 2013). Cultural tourism can include cities, communities, rural areas, museums, theaters and historical places. Accounting to Global Tour, 37% of the total tourism consists of Cultural and heritage tourism. It has been attracting large number of people from different countries (Du Cros and McKercher, 2014). Furthermore, it supports sustainable growth and causes no harm to the environment. The main objective of this report is to evaluate the cultural tourism attraction from the perspective of the visitors. To accomplish this, Newcastle Memorial Walk has been included in the study. It is considered as one of the most iconic tourist attraction in Australia. The selected location has been visited multiple times as the entire interpretation of the site has been done by making observations. Apart from this, theoretical and textual material has also been used to better presentation and for understanding the cultural and heritage tourism. Newcastle Memorial Walk: Description Newcastle Memorial Walk is located at Memorial Dr, The Hill in New South Wales, Australia. The landmark has been built after years of planning and it was inaugurated on the ANZAC Gallipoli landing. The entire structure is located above 9 meters from the ground level and it provides 360 degree view from the cliff (Aitchison, MacLeod and Shaw, 2014). The cost for building Newcastle Memorial Walk was more than $4.5 million. It has been created by BHP Billiton and Newcastle City council. RPS has been supporting the Newcastle Memorial Walk and they have organized many events to promote the cultural and heritage of the country. It has been built to commemorate the soldiers and people who were involved in World War. The list and names of 3860 locals have been engraved on the steel silhouettes (Figure 2). The locals can be seen touching their relatives names. Along with this, the walkway on the cliff has many history panels which provide details of different conflicts and places. The walk is equivalent to the bridge climb of Sydney Harbor. Furthermore, the visitors have to pay nothing to visit the tourist attraction. The personal connection of the locals with the Newcastle Memorial Walk has been its key to the success (Newcastle Memorial Walk opened, 2016). Both Memorial walk and drive run parallel to each other. It has resulted in the increase of its popularity and cultural association. The coastlines, beaches, cliff, scenery and views have been additional features which have increased the value of the place. The cliff top has been restricted for the entry of the people because of coastal weather which has eroded in recent few years. But the memorial walk is safe for the public access and it remains open 24*7. The six kilometer walk appears short for the locals but it is appropriate for the locals who have little knowledge about ANZACs. They can read the information and the names on the ANZAC Memorial to understand the heritage and Australian culture. It has been a su ccessful concept which has given the city its newest experience (Newcastle Memorial Walk, 2016). The government has been promoting their new cultural tourist attraction and they have made significant improvements in it. The management has been active and they agave ensured that the visitors have no problems on the site. It has been considered as a memorable site and not a recreational facility. They have made sure that all the users are respected. The entire structure has been created from stainless steel. It includes 160 m high rocky cliff The City Council and the government have been planning to make it the most important World War 1 memorial in Australia. Memorial Drive has built to commemorate people who have served the country (Anzac walk officially open, 2016). Names of ex-servicemen and women have been engraved. Water foundations have increased the beauty and attractive of the place. It links coastline to Nobby Beach, Merewether Baths, Newcastle beaches and Bathers way. The structure has been built to cater different range of people (Briassoulis and Van der Straaten, 2013). The Council has not allowed any event to take place in the Newcastle Memorial Walk due to limited space and easy accessibility to others. There are various sing boards and informative contents to provide details of the activities and Hunter Valley men and women. The walk takes almost 30 minutes from the beginning till the end but many people have stayed for a long time because they were having good time with their family and friends. The most satisfying moment for the visitors is to see their family names engraved on the wall. They can relive the history and recall the sacrifices made by the soldiers and family members (Aitchison, MacLeod and Shaw, 2014). It helps in creating a personal connection with the place and it gives tribute to the people who have their names on the wall. The management has also ensured that they have provided all the in formation about the people and past events. They have informative panes and boards which provide detailed description above the cultural association and heritage. They have a list which provides the names of different conflicts and various other aspects (Du Cros and McKercher, 2014). People can be seen looking for the family names and leaving flowers for them as a tribute. Apart from this, the visit to Newcastle Memorial Walk is free of charge and it remains throughout the day. The multiple visits to the tourist attraction consist of both day and night which has been spectacular. It can provide a refreshing experience to the visitor which is far more than they have anticipated. They can relax themselves and spend some quality time with their family. They can look at the fantastic view of the city, city lights, coastlines and rocky cliffs. Many people visit the place more often to en joy the winter weather and fresh air (Newcastle Memorial Walk, 2016). It provided one of the best views of the sea which makes it a great walk. The biggest advantage of Newcastle Memorial Walk is that it is suitable for all ages which make it a landmark for all. Furthermore, there are stairs, platforms and areas which are wheel chair accessible. Moreover, the wide space of the walk does not make it look overcrowded even though they are more people in the place. The locals are also friendly and lot of foreigners can be seen on the walk. The coffee shops and restaurants are also nearby which is useful for the visitors and family. Newcastle Memorial Walk encourages the people to visit again and recommend it to others. Furthermore, the Newcastle Council has ensured that they are multiple entrances to the walk. It has been designed keeping in mind the needs and preferences of the visitors (Aitchison, MacLeod and Shaw, 2014). They can enter form the parking, stairs or ramp. It has helped in enhancing the overall experience of the visitors. The popularity of the attraction has been increasing because it provides amazing views, history and unforgettable experience. The informative history panels have been placed for this purpose. It has been given in the image below which contains the details of the Australian Flying Corps. This is a great initiative from the management to disseminate the information (Aitchison, MacLeod and Shaw, 2014). Figure 3: Informative history panels Management: The management has been active and it can be seen in the designs of the memorial walk. They have excellent job in making sure that they cater to need of all the individuals including foreign visitors. It can be seen from the observation of the site that it is organized in an effective manner. The structure, design, location and views have been complementing each other. It has increased the attraction of the Memorial Walk significantly (Briassoulis and Van der Straaten, 2013). There are also many interpretative materials such as signs and tours. They have been encouraging schools and tour groups to visit the Newcastle Memorial Walk because it will increase their awareness about the culture and heritage in the country. City council has been taking active part in this. Authenticity: The government and City Council has been involved in the conduction and the designing on the Memorial Walk. They have taken the help of many historians and researchers to find out the names and the conflicts they were involved in it. The list of people on the wall can be found in Hunter Valley and Newcastle (Du Cros and McKercher, 2014). Furthermore, the records of Newcastle, Hunter Valley and Canberra have been searched to gather precise information. It has increased the authenticity of the details and names present on the walls, steel silhouettes and informative history panels. Controlled or regulated movements: The management has restricted the entry of dogs because it is considered as a Memorial Walk. Furthermore, it is not possible for them to clean the entire pathways on a regular basis. They have also placed safety signage on the site to provide safety and comfort to the people. Similarly, skateboards, bikes and events are also not allowed. Even though the site is open for the whole week including night but it can be closed by the management if the weather is not suitable. There are also signage regarding the direction and pathways at different places on the walk. The main objective of the management is to provide information about the safety measures. But they have not controlled the movement of the visitors. In fact, there are multiple entrances for them which are accessible to all users (Anzac walk officially open, 2016). Apart from this, there are boards containing the history and cultural information related to the memorial. Evaluation of the success and recommendations Measures of success of the attraction Cultural and heritage attraction: The memorial has been built to give tribute to the men and women who have served the country as well as the community (Boniface, 2013). The management has taken the help from the historians who have done extensive research in finding out the names of the people. Suitable for all ages: The idea of the government and City council was to create a structure which not only provides information about the history but also satisfies all visitors. It has been accomplished with the help of additional features on the site such as beaches, coastlines, sea and scenery. Planning for the construction: The plans for the designs, construction and accessibility have been excellent by the government. It has been observed that they have taken into account many aspects and things to make sure that it becomes the most important iconic images in the city (Newcastle Memorial Walk opened, 2016). It has been a unique concept which has been successful as it has been attracting large number of tourists which includes bother domestic as well as international. Central location: Another advantage of the site is that it is close to the city. It has many nearby attractions such as Newcastle museum, Cathedral Church, King Edward park etc. It provides more opportunity to the tourists to visit the place along with other attractions. Additional features of the attraction: Monumental walk has been supported by the additional features present on the site (Boniface, 2013). It includes rocky cliffs, beaches, coastlines, dolphins, sea etc. It has helped the government to increase the popularity of the place. Many people have visited the attraction multiple times due to this. Recommendations It is recommended to the management that they should increase the length of the walk. They can include the Newcastle beach as the starting point which can extend to King Edward Park and Bar beach. It will allow people to reach different place at ease. The main part of the Newcastle Memorial Walk is only limited to the memorial part which has to be extended by the management. Apart from this, they should also take care of the maintenance of the area. Even though they have restricted the entry of dogs but the litter can be seen which has been a major disappointment. The length of the walk has restricted the management because it becomes difficult to clean the entire walk on a daily basis. But it has to be taken into consideration by them because it can affect the experience of the visitors. Furthermore, guided tours have to be introduced for Newcastle Memorial Walk. At present, there are no guided tours which are available. The City Council has been working on it but they have not been able to extend to all the tourists. They are only restricted to schools and very limited tours. This is an area which requires attention from the management because it will help them to attract more foreign tourist. Information panels may not be as attractive as tours guides who can explain them all the details in their own language. Moreover, they can print brochures, display advertisements and guidebooks to communicate about Newcastle Memorial Walk and its attractions. Conclusion It can be concluded from the above that Newcastle Memorial Walk is a unique concept which has been created to promote culture and heritage of Australia. It has been attracting large number of people from different countries. It has been built to commemorate the soldiers and people who were involved in World War 1. The names of 3860 locals have been engraved on the steel silhouettes and the information has been displayed through information panels which have been placed at different spots. The management has ensured that Cultural, heritage attraction and authenticity of the walk remains intact. They can use advertisements, brochures, and guidebooks to attract foreign tourists. Eminent Domain History, Elements, Usage
Eminent domain is the power of a government to seize private property for public purposes in exchange for payment at fair prices. A variety of property rights such as land and water rights is subject to eminent domain. Eminent domain is an area that seriously challenges the court. This is because many private owners of propertyà complainà terribly much about this government right. They alsoà beginà initiating actions against the government.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Eminent Domain: History, Elements, Usage specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More History of eminent domain Thisà ideaà of eminent domain did not start now. It still existed since biblical times. For example, when King Ahab offered Naboth compensation for his vineyard. In 1789, France was able to recognise private property ownerââ¬â¢s compensation for taken property. Acknowledging eminent domain in the Fifth Amendment into the constitutio n occurs after this amendment. Just compensation is a requirement so as to ease financial burdens incurred by the property owners and for the benefit of the public (Bradley 96). Elements of eminent domain For a government to exercise thisà powerà of eminent domain, it must prove that the four elementsà setà in the Fifth Amendment areà present. They include: private property, must be taken, for public use and with just compensation. Private property This element requires the property taken to be private. Privateà propertyà includes land, option, stock, and other items. Taking It refers to takingà physicalà propertyà as well as takingà propertyà through reducing itsà value. The cause for the reduction of the value of property is due to problems like noise, accessibility, and other agents. Some property rightsà getà protectionà from the constitution. For example, water rights: changing of land from the waterfront to inland property through constructing h ighways, and roads leads to the owner receiving compensation for the loss of waterfront. Reasonable, andà ordinarilyà use of space above private land is anotherà propertyà that receives constitutional protection. For example, aircraft flights above a privately owned land, that seriously interfere with the property that the owner use results to taking. Compensation only happens if the flights are tooà lowà andà extremelyà frequentà that they directly interfere with the ownerââ¬â¢s property andà enjoyment. Publication of plans and laying outà publicà improvements like streets and highways are actions by the government that the court do notà considerà taking. Regulation ofà propertyà has not been traditionally recognised by the court as taking. Regulating property leads to restricting itsà usageà by the owner and mayà violateà him or her rights. Theà stateà uses policeà powerà to control use of the private property in order toà imple mentà regulationà of property.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Public use This is the third element. It requires that the property taken to be beneficial to the public rather than individuals. Therefore, the court determines if the property taken was to be used toà benefità the general public. To determine whether property taken is forà publicà use, the court determines whether the largest portion of the property is in use by the public.à Public use, therefore, is anà elementà that is up to seeing theà aimà of taking private property; if the property serves the public or specific individuals. Just compensation This element states that the amount of compensation given toà propertyà damaged should beà acceptableà to both the private owner and to the public. The court emphasises on the right to theà privateà owner eminent domain proceedings. In this case, the owner does notà initiateà the action; it brought to her or him since the public is the one that requiresà landà for use (Epstein 267). The proceedings become a burden to the owner. Fair market value is theà measureà ofà damageà of the property taken for public use. Assessing of the value of real property is according to howà significantà it willà beà to the public. Elements to consider are history of an area, adaptability of the land for future constructions, and the intended use of the property or land. Measuring the amount of compensation should beà correspondingà to the ownerââ¬â¢sà lossà rather than the condemnerââ¬â¢sà gain. Also, the ownerââ¬â¢s compensation should be equal to his/her financialà statusà before the taking ofà propertyà took place. Condemnation proceedings The government or the state initiates them toà commità private property to public. The procedure ofà condemnationà has two stages: the one relating to the acquisition of property, and relating to fixation of compensation for the property owner. The state requires special procedures for some cases like when constructing a highway, property taken for a street, a canal, or a waterway. The aim of condemnation proceedings is to protect the rights of landowners. It ensures that compensation occurs adequately. Onceà proceedingsà start, it is theà dutyà of the landowner to prove that he had a right to compensation. Peopleà believeà condemnation proceedings as an adversary although the court gives aà viewà that they are not. It states that it is just a mere act of filling theà actionà to confer possession by the state.à Further condemnation proceedingsà are consideredà administrativeà when theà executiveà body conducts it. A Story About Seeing MxPx essays
A Story About Seeing MxPx essays On November 13th I went to Tramps in New York to see one of my favorite bands, MxPx. MxPx is a Christian pop-punk band. Pop punk basically means happy punk. The band members, are Mike Herrera who plays bass and sings, Tom Wisniewski who plays guitar and Yuri Ruley plays drums. They played about 10 songs, all of which I knew. Some of their songs have to do with society problems through the eyes of a teenager. At the show, the first song they played was one of my favorite's, "Teenage Politics". Some of the lyrics to this song are, "No I'm not mad but I think they forget what it's like and how hard it is to be a teenager. This is a new day and age, we read a different book where Elvis ain't the rage and polyester ain't the look." "...Is it time again to disagree about anything, everything and what's on TV it's a vicious circle, never ending a linear equation worldly extending. No, I'll never be like you; I'll never be like you. Oh no! I'm just like you!" The second song they played was "I'm the Bad Guy". The first couple lines of state, "Legalistic people suck. Legalism makes me sick." Even though they openly bust on legalism, they also know the world has nothing to offer them but hurt and pain, while God is the only answer. Since they are a Christian punk band, of course they have to play religious songs. One really good song that they played there was "False Fiction". This song basically means that the world is going through such turmoil because we don't have Christ in our lives. "They guarantee our freedom but freedom isn't real unless you know Christ you wont know how I feel. Inflections of the way things were supposed to be the mental disorder of our society...maybe this world had stopped thinking maybe all their minds are shrinking you failed system is including chaos, it's chaos, it's your loss." In "Like sand through the hourglass...so are the days of our lives," they say, "My world is breaking down around me. I see m ...

Business Service Operations - Essay Example The assignment also portrays the layout of services and service delivery network of Tesco. Furthermore, it also illustrates certain important suggestions for developing the service concept and the delivery system of the organisation. Services can generally appear on the basis of different shapes and forms. For instance, in business to consumer organisation, service can arrive in the form of retail services. Moreover, in business to business organisation, services can arrive from consulting services and in non-profit organisations, services can arrive from charity services. Any kind of service can produce additional value for the customerââ¬â¢s at large (Berry, 1995). With this concern, the assignment is based on understanding the service concept of an UK based supermarket retailer named Tesco and recommending effective strategies to develop its various services. Service is fundamentally considered to be an activity or set of procedures that is used for maintaining smooth interrelation with the customers and enhancing the overall business performance. Service concept is a vital method of apprehending the nature of services so that the customers comprehend about what they are receiving and employees also understand about what they are delivering. It is a shared understanding of nature of service which encapsulates information about classifying thoughts, customersââ¬â¢ experience and service outcomes. Service concept is a core task in managing different service operations. It can be used as a central tool in the design, distribution and improvement of services of a particular organisation. In order to be effective, service concept must deliver adequate information in order to make

MGMT499 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
MGMT499 - Essay Example In terms of legal environment, strict environmental legislation results into higher costs for both discount retailers. This factor even encompasses rising awareness amongst customers which increases costs for retailers such as Walmart and Target who follows green movement (Zentes, Morschett & Klein, 2012, pp.102-103). On the other hand social environment comprise of varying income levels of customers which give an opportunity to both the retailers in relation to lowering prices and acquiring large market share. The culture prevailing in Walmart is to work in collaboration and increase efficiency of the overall team. They even focus on reducing overhead expense so that better prices can be offered to customers. The performance rate of Walmart is higher in comparison to other retailers and hence it ranks as topmost retailer across the globe. On the contrary Target has a performance ratio lower than Walmart and occupies second position amongst all discount retailers based in America. Its low performance is due to limited product range being offered in all its retail stores. However the company culture is similar to that of Walmart where team members are considered to be an integral part of the system. The promotion policies of Walmart are such that it gives more emphasis on increasing responsibilities and retaining experienced workers in the system. There were 170,000 promoted by the company in previous year with more benefits and higher pay scale. These policies are based on average performance of employees and impact of their respective performance in growth and success of the company. On the other hand Target has a different set of promotion policies as it focuses on time period which has been spent by an employee with the organization. Promotion in this company is given to those employees who possess more experience in comparison to other individuals. However the promotional benefits are similar to that of Walmart. Walmart is a big retail
